Subject: Reader's choice -- The Top 50 ESNUG Items for 2006

MAGMA MINDSHARE: Out of a choice of 4,285 total "items" available in the
DeepChip archives, below is the Top 50 Items for 2006. If you read them,
you'll find the discussion in 2006 broke out to:

                         Cadence: ######## 16%
                        Synopsys: ################ 32%
                          Mentor: ####### 14%
                           Magma: ######### 18%
                 Apache/Sequence: ### 6%
            Synplicity/Precision: ## 4%
                     general HDL: ### 6%
                  Bluespec/Forte: ### 6%
                             DFM: ### 6%
                 other small EDA: ####### 14%
                       emulators: ### 6%
                    general tech: ### 6%

                           Total: ############################## 134%

Yup, it totals to 134%. Many topics cover multiple companies in depth; for
example, #29 "Jason Ware jumps from Synopsys to Cadence", counts as both a
Synopsys and a Cadence topic. Or #27 "ECSM vs. Liberty CCS" is very easily
a multiple Cadence/Magma/Synopsys topic.

I find it interesting that while some EDA bigwigs like the phrase "Big 3",
from what I see of the user clicks, it's really the Big 4 -- behind Synopsys
the most discussed tools aren't Cadence's nor Mentor's -- but Magma's!
Heck, Magma's seriously involved in 4 out of the Top 10 ESNUG Items of 2006.

The #1 topic had 18,339 pageviews; the #50 topic had 3,928 pageviews.
