Subject: Snarkies on Anirudh 2023 vs. Synopsys.ai, ChatGPT, and chiplets

Editor's Note: These are the user snarkies I received in relation to
the "Anirudh 2022 King of EDA" story *after* the recent launch (two
weeks ago) of Synopsys.ai at SNUG'23. Enjoy. - John

SANTA CLARA, CA, 03/29/2023, PRnewswire -- Synopsys.ai blah blah AI-driven

    - John Cooley's interpretation of the SNUG'23 news from 03/29/2023

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Anirudh was the 2022 King of EDA, but what about 2023?

From the SNUG meeting last it looks like Aart has a lot going on in
AI that might cause Anirudh to lose his crown in 2023.

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

I just watched the Aart keynote. Synopsys.ai has 160 tapeouts.

Maybe it'll be Aart as the EDA King in 2023?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Is Cadence doing anything to match the Synopsys.ai launch?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Can you independently confirm these DSO.ai tape-outs, John?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Do you know how Synopsys defines a Synopsys.ai tapeout?

Is it VSO.ai or DSO.ai or TSO.ai touched any part of the chip?

    Or is a VSO.ai -> DSO.ai -> TSO.ai all the way flow?

Or two out of three .ai flows were used?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Anirudh's reign might be only 1 year if Synopsys.ai takes off.

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

What's the Cadence equivalent to the Synopsys AI flow story?

I can only find TenSilica DSP and Allegro articles for Cadence AI.

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Does CDNS have anything for digital PnR or full custom that's AI?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

At DAC two years ago, Cadence launched it's Cerebrus floorplan
optimizer with machine learning. Renesas and Samsung spoke.

What's happened to Cerebrus since that DAC?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

I saw a chiplet talk at SNUG.

I also saw TSMC, Imec, and AMD talk at ISSCC.

I know Ansys has some chiplet tools for interposers.

Is Cadence doing anything tool-specific for chiplets?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

Do you know of any EDA company making a tool around ChatGPT?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

I heard Cadence has a Verilog regression tool based on ChatGPT.

Do you know if this is true? If yes, what details can you share?

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

What's the difference between heuristics and machine learning and
    artificial intelligence in EDA?

They're now saying ML/AI everywhere where they used to say heuristics.

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
