( DAC'17 Item 1d ) ------------------------------------------------ [11/09/17]
Subject: Spies hint that Synopsys is making a PSS tool, but it wasn't at DAC
AART WANTS IN ON PSS: In my annual pre-DAC Cheesy Must See List, I made an
ominous "scoop" prediction which turned out to be only 90% true ...
SCOOP! -- Synopsys Mystery PS Tool is rumored to be coming out at
this DAC'17. Unknown if DSL or Breker C++ or something else...
Spies say it's to be roughly based on their Certess Certitude tool.
- from http://www.DeepChip.com/gadfly/gad061617.html
... because after DAC in Austin, my spies told me that yes, Aart is working
on a PSS tool, but it wasn't shown at that DAC.

QUESTION ASKED:
Q: "What were the 3 or 4 most INTERESTING specific EDA tools
you've seen this year? WHY did they interest you?"
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Your scoop was wrong, Cooley. There was no Mystery PS tool in the
Synopsys DAC booth. Not even under NDA. Excuse the pun, but it's
not ready for primetime yet.
I will tell you more later when I can.

Biggest lie?
Cooley says a SNPS PSS tool was at DAC. Why can't you keep your
rumors straight?
To feed your ****-ed up little ego, I'll throw you this bone.
Manoj's R&D is working on a PSS compliant tool that might be alpha
ready by the next SJ SNUG. It's graphical based DSL yet closer to
Breker than to either Perspec nor InFact. It's to be tightly
integrated into VCS, Primetime, and ZeBu.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Synopsys has a PSS skunkworks project that wasn't at DAC. It
is to be announced either at DVcon'18 or in Aart's SNUG Silicon
Valley keynote. They want it to be fully PSWG compliant plus
have at least two strong Tier 1 reference customers ready for
its public launch.
I did not say this to you. We never spoke.
