Subject: SCOOP -- rumor MENT to buy Solido -- Siemens is in EDA after all!
SOLIDO KICKS ASS: In a normal year, Solido Amit gives his usual variation
talking points along with blah blah blah ...
... blah blah blah which got the most
interest for Custom IC in this year's "Best of 2017" EDA tool user survey.

When you run an email list of 50,000 chip guys and you post a story on a
Friday about how one EDA company did, one fun side effect is it triggers
a whole bunch of reader replies about *that* company.
To be very specific, I'm hearing lots of chatter that Mentor is acquiring
Solido today. (And from what my spies tell me, it's for a hefty multiple
of 7X; and yes, I'm seeking confirmation on this crazy ass high multiple!)
CDNS AND SNPS NOT HAPPY: If this Mentor-acquires-Solido rumor is true, it's
very bad news for both Anirudh and Aart because it means that -- through
its actions, Siemens is saying it's MENT division is staying in the EDA
game and it plans to be giving CDNS and SNPS serious competition in the
EDA business. (Sorry Aart. Sorry Anirudh.)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
CADENCE IS IN TROUBLE: It doesn't take Einstein to puzzle out that if both
BDA Ravi Subramanian and Solido Amit Gupta are tag-teamed at Mentor,
as far as Tom Beckley (who's the CDNS bigwig responsible for the entire
Spectre/Virtuoso/Liberate franchise) is concerned -- those two are going to
be up to no good in Tom's domain. (Sorry, Tom.)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
CADENCE DIDN'T BID ON SOLIDO?: The other things my spies are telling me is
that "there were two other bidders for Solido" -- but that Cadence wan't one
of them! Was that due to bad blood from the earlier BDA-CDNS lawsuits?
SCOOP -- Judge dismisses CDNS vs. BDA lawsuit "with prejudice"
Does Cadence-Berkeley lawsuit mean some ADE users will be sued?
So far public opinion is strongly anti-Cadence on CDNS vs. BDA
BDA tells CDNS "IN YOUR FACE" with new analog characterization
But regardless, what I'm hearing was it was an aggressive threeway bidding war
which drove up the multiple to 7X -- and for Siemens to win this bid means
that Siemens is very serious about EDA.

P.S. Hint! Hint!, I'm still trying to suss out who the other 2 bidders were.
