Subject: Cooley's open letter to ANSS Ajei Gopal to join Troublemaker Panel

The day after I broke the SCOOP that Anirudh was making a direct play on
the Ansys HFSS empire, I sent this email to Ajei Gopal, the CEO of Ansys.

        ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

  From: [ John Cooley of DeepChip.com ]
to: [ Ajei Gopal of Ansys ]

        Hi, Ajei,

I'd like to invite you to be on my DAC Troublemaker Panel at
the Las Vegas Convention Center this year. It's on Monday,
June 6 from 3 PM to 4 PM.

I've asked Vic Kulkarni and John Lee (cc'd here) to be on
the panel in the past, but unfortunately, they were unable to
        participate.

My web site, DeepChip.com, is over 25 years old (1991) and has
an organically grown mailing list of 52,000 engineers. It's
mostly EDA users (chip designers and verifyers) talking about
EDA tools. But I also like to have coverage in DeepChip from
        all the major EDA Vendors.

I haven't had any content from Ansys since the Gear acquisition.
Before then, both Apache and Sequence would participate with
        user input.

If you are not able to participate in the DAC panel, would
you be interested in responding to the DeepChip article on
Cadence's new technology that I sent out yesterday?

DeepChip works because it's a user discussion -- plus all the
vendors can have a voice in it. Unlike some EDA publications,
you do not need to buy a sponsorship to have content in DeepChip.

I never heard back from Ajei on that email.

But that doesn't surprise me because I'm sure Ajei gets flooded with emails.
What bothered me is that none of his people replied back either; which
tells me that there's a good chance Ajei never got my message at all.

So now I have to go public with the email -- in hopes that Ajei himself
*might* here it's two part message.

Is this a publicity stunt? Yes, and no.

I'm doing this publically in hopes of possibly getting Ajei on the
DAC Troublemakers Panel because ANSS has been taking a multi year thrashing
on the panel -- specifically with his RedHawk and Gear tools.

Cooley: So, Joe, speaking of IR drop, you and Anirudh last year talked
about Apache having problems with IR drop and their Redhawk,
           Seahawk, SeaScape tool... (ESNUG 563 #10) I don't know...
they keep changing the names of it now. Just recently they
called it "Redhawk-SC" or something like that. So, what's the
status that you guys are seeing now in the Ansys tool? Last
year, it had accuracy and repeatability problems.

Hogan: Well, you know, this goes back to... Someone just made a
comment about ICC II, (ESNUG 563 #6) how trying to replace the
engine on the plane as it's flying is a hard thing to do. So
Ansys Redhawk had been leading the market for a while. But...

Hogan and Anirudh on Ansys ANSS Redhawk/SeaScape vs. CDNS Voltus
                http://www.deepchip.com/items/0583-05.html

Anirudh and Sawicki on iffy Apache IR-drop #'s vs. Voltus/Innovus
                http://www.deepchip.com/items/0563-10.html

But not only on the panel, in the normal user talk on DeepChip, both his
Gear and RedHawk tools are in trouble, too.

Cadence Voltus, Ansys RedHawk, SeaHawk, Tempus, Primetime, Dorado
                http://www.deepchip.com/items/dac17-09.html

A second CDNS Voltus-DP vs. ANSS Gear RedHawk-DMP user benchmark
                http://www.deepchip.com/items/0561-01.html

The Nvidia stealth benchmark of CDNS Voltus vs. ANSS Gear RedHawk
                http://www.deepchip.com/items/0560-03.html

And this is just in the ANSS RedHawk vs. CDNS Voltus war.

It's now going to expand to a ANSS HFSS vs. CDNS Clarity war.
And this is in front of 52,000 chip design and verification guys. So I'd
like to ask two things:

      1. Ajei, could you *please* join the DAC Troublemakers Panel?

      2. Ajei, could you *please* let your own people be free to
answer the EDA tech talk that's going on in DeepChip?

Anirudh is going after your EDA division. Just in terms of fairness and
balance, I would *love* to see the Ansys side to these attacks.
