Subject: A "Gentlemen's Bet" on SystemC Usage To Be Paid at the next DAC

> 2.) Do you see your project using SystemC within the next 6 months?
> (Yes or No) Are you using SystemC for high level modeling, or

Hi, John,

I wanted to give you an update on SystemC's continuing progress as an
emerging standard for high level design. Over 7,000 people have now
attended our Forte online SystemC training, and http://www.SystemC.org
shows over 200,000 downloads of the SystemC simulator. There are now 25+
companies supporting SystemC for over 38 products.

DVcon was buzzing with SystemC users, papers, and panels this year again.
A year ago you mentioned that 'pigs would fly' when SystemC took off as a
dominant design language. I think that the SystemC usage stats you get
this year will show SystemC taking off! :)

Blah, blah, blah, Brett.... 200,000 downloads? There aren't 200,000
chip designers on the planet! Where are 200,000 downloads coming from?
Google stuck spidering your site??? With all your marketing crap about
SystemC, how about putting a little wager on it? Last year you got 32%.

"Do you see your project using SystemC in the next 6 months?"

          not in the
         next 6 months : ################################## 68%

           yes we will : ################# 32%

            - from http://www.deepchip.com/items/dvcon04-03.html

How about if this year if you don't get at least 50% using SystemC, you'll
wear a pink tutu at some big event at DAC. If you do get over 50%, then
I'll be the idiot wearing the pink tutu at some event at DAC. Fair enough?

Now how strongly do you feel about SystemC kicking butt in the survey? Or
was all that just more marketing B.S.?

Ouch! Sorry, no can do on the pink tutu, John.

I admit I am too chicken to risk my career by being seen in one. After
all, you're the one counting the responses, and that is like the fox
guarding the chicken coop. But I believe strongly in SystemC. I know it's
catching on. So I am willing to wear a chicken suit at a DAC event if I
lose; and likewise you'll have to wear the chicken suit if you lose.

I know I'm going to regret this, but how about now? Do we have a bet?
Or are you afraid?

OK... Chicken suits it is! The bet is on. And I'm not going to ask why
or where you're going to get a chicken suit. Some things should remain
private, I guess... :)
