Subject: What two top 10 semi companies did Cadence steal and from who?
From: [ Inquiring Minds ]
Hi, John,
Please keep me anonymous.
Can any of your readers confirm the two large Cadence digital wins at two
"top 10 semiconductor customers" that Cadence pointed to on their recent
Q2 earnings call?
"Demand for both our software and hardware products was strong,
driving increased run rates on renewals. For example, two of
the world's top 10 semiconductor companies significantly
increased their usage of our digital products. Both of these
transactions consist primarily of new business, and together,
will provide more than $10 million of incremental annualized
revenue."
"As I said in the beginning, we significantly expanded our digital
implementation position at two of the world's top 10 semiconductor
companies as we displaced alternative suppliers."
- Lip-Bu Tan on Cadence Q2 2011 Call on 7/28/11
Three weeks later on the Synopsys earnings call:
"One of your competitors went out of their way recently to highlight
some competitive displacements at two top 10 semi customers. ...
Have there been any significant losses for Synopsys in any of the
top 10 customers recently or is Synopsys' market share is stable
and growing?"
- Paul Thomas, BofA, on Synopsys Q3 2011 Call on 8/17/11
"You know we have not seen any, and our market share feels very stable
and growing and as much as $10 million is a great number, we do $1.5
billion, and so it doesn't -- it was not visible to us. And the
reality is many of the very large customers have a broad set of
customer tool arrangements, sorry, and so frankly, we don't know what
they're talking about."
- Aart de Geus on Synopsys Q3 2011 Call on 8/17/11
I interpret this as either Aart saying SNPS lost no digital business, or
he's hedging by saying the deal was so small he didn't notice it.
I doubt Lip Bu Tan would outright lie in an earnings call. So what two
top 10 semi companies did Cadence steal and from who?
