The Wiretap Intercept No. 100628
opinions and skeptical speculations too small to fit into an Industry Gadfly column

Subject: DAC'10 attendance down 21%, or up 3%, or down 5% or down 25%

Here's the apples-to-oranges year-over-year DAC attendance numbers:

The 2009 San Francisco DAC attendance

      Full Con Attendees: #################### 1,962
  Exhibit-Only Attendees: ################################# 3,337
       Booth Staff, Etc.: ########################### 2,697
              2009 Total: 7,996

The 2010 Anaheim DAC attendance

      Full Con Attendees: ################ 1,554 (-20.8%)
  Exhibit-Only Attendees: ################################## 3,444 (+3.2%)
       Booth Staff, Etc.: ########################## 2,557 (-5.2%)
              2010 Total: 6,001 (-24.9%)

Why I say apples-to-oranges is because comparing San Francisco attendence,
(which is only 3.14159 miles from the 1.5 billion chip designers based in
Silicon Valley) vs. the Anaheim attendance (which in a 50 mile radius only
has 42 chip designers who all work at Broadcom) isn't a fair comparision.
