A few minutes ago Cadence just announced that it has acquired ClearShape for
an undisclosed sum of money. I love it! I love it! I love it! All along
the Cadence Corporate Marketing folks have taken great distain in anything
I've had to say -- yet my amazing psychic EDA preditions keep coming true!
I love it! I love it! I love it!
For the record, 1 month before DAC, I wrote:
"The second reason is that Cadence has been really quiet about the
DFM front overall. Wall Street doesn't like this. Other than
the Brion and ClearShape "partnerships" CDNS announced last October,
2006, they've done very little. This means they're buying their
way in -- i.e. they're in catch-up mode and that Cadence knows they
need to play in this DFM market against Mentor and Synopsys."

For the record, in my DAC 2007 Cheesy Must See List, I wrote:
"Two rumors: 1.) Joe Sawicki, a Mentor DFM bigwig, bailed at the
last minute on the DVcon Troublemakers Panel cause he didn't want
to square off against ClearShape; 2.) Cadence offered $100M for
ClearShape. (booth 7164)"

For the record, right after DAC, I wrote:
"Cadence NEEDS to get legit quick in the DFM game or they'll be
yesterday's news in a few years. Cadence needs a ClearShape."

Plus I could cite some 20 other entries on DeepChip where people were
discussing ClearShape and Cadence in some way. Everything from the $25
million acquisition number to technical details on how InShape works.
And am I gloating? Hell yes, I'm gloating! You have no idea about all the
behind-the-scenes crap and bullshit and personal grief the EDA marketing
people throw at me whenever I make any such predictions. It's *only* when
my predictions come true that they finally shut up. Hell yes, I'm gloating!
I *told* you that Cadence was going to buy ClearShape! I told ya! :)

Yeah, John, you said it, but the terms of the Cadence/ClearShape deal were
undisclosed, which means that the price was so low that it doesn't need to
be reported. What's up with that?
