Subject: What Users Would NOT Change About Cadence
WHAT TO KEEP: Some favorites are keep the product names, the spirit of the
company, the new openness, Linux support, certain local support teams,
First Encounter, Get2chip, top talent from acquisitions, creating PDKs.
A voodoo priestess in New Orleans swaps your soul with Mike Fister,
the CEO of Cadence. Even though you were a Cadence customer before,
now that *you* are the new CEO of Cadence:
What 2 or 3 things about Cadence would you NOT change?
I would suggest not changing the names of their products but they already
did that in an attempt to put some new lipstick on them.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
keep the local support staff
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
The overall spirit seen in the employees. It looks like it would be fun
to work there, but maybe that's only because Cadence employees have
unlimited licenses. :-)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
How they have kept the top talent from acquisitions and given them
authority.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
This last year they stopped lying to us (at least the big fibs). Please
may this honesty continue. (Note, I can not say the same about Synopsys
this last year).
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Linux support
CDB database
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Cadence VCAD (Munich)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
First Encounter. The integration with TSMC. Although their are rough
parts, this relationship cements Cadence is many design flows.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
The schematic and layout edition environment is a reference for Cadence.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Definitely continue working with foundries to create PDKs. Cadence has a
huge advantage over the others with the foundry model becoming
increasingly popular.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
i2i support
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
1. CTO visits to customers.
2. Very friendly and open work environment within the company...
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Skill language
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Like the support structure. Very happy with the local support.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
the PCB platforms
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Point tool technology is pretty good.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Excellent NC simulator
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
1) Continue multi-OS support -- especially Linux.
2) Continue the extensive training, support, & documentation programs.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
- Documentation.
- Understanding other customer flow (which is not always the Cadence
recommended flow)
- faster PCR closure
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Cadence sales and AE support in Midwest is excellent.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Local support
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Buying. I guess they can only get good tools and people by buying them.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Get2chip
First Encounter
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I would keep integrating the physical down into the synthesis world. It's
working and it makes Synopsys look stupid for not being able to do it
as well. I would keep the TCL language for everything other than Verilog.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
There are some key people in the organization, identify and keep them!
