Subject: Cooley asks Metrics Tech: "did anyone there think this through?"
Although this isn't a benchmark per se, I wanted to share with your DeepChip
readers a first look at something different at Metrics Technologies.
I have been using it for over a year evaluating their cloud simulator and
its potential use for my company.
What's different about Metrics is they sell a System Verilog simulator that
you rent by the minute on Google Cloud. Current pricing is $.04 per minute
per simulation job.

DID ANYONE THINK THIS THROUGH?: Also 3 weeks ago I had one of those proud
DeepChip moments where I had the inside scoop on a new EDA company & tool:
SCOOP -- a first look at the pay-per-minute Metrics SV simulator
As the DeepChip editor I love posts like that -- deep engineering user tech
talk that goes into the hardcore nuts and bolts of a new EDA tool! Yea!
And it was right before DVcon'18! Double yea! Happy John!
So when the email blast went out to 52,000 DeepChip subscribers, the reader
comments that came back surprised me -- NO ONE COULD FIND THEIR WEB SITE!
Long story short -- there are three "Metrics Tech" companies:
Metrics Technologies which does Microsoft Windows software for
semiconductor IC manufacturing test & characterization based
in New Mexico.
Metric Technologies which does cloud based SW for home automation
that's based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Metrics Technologies which rents out a cloud based pay-per-minute
commercial System Verilog simulator from Canada.
No matter what words you Google, and with all sorts of variations -- you 90%
end up at the New Mexico SW test company -- or at 10% you end up at the Abu
Dhabi home automation one -- but *never* at our Canadian pay-per-minute SV
sim EDA start-up company!
(I even had a few readers comments suggesting that I had been *pranked* on
this DeepChip user review of the "new" Metrics CloudSim EDA tool because no
one could find their %$-ing company web site!)
Such major marketing incompetence openly begs the question: "Did anyone there
take 3 minutes to %$-ing think through your company name and web site?
These are mistakes even my 16 year old nephew still in high school would not
be making if he started an EDA company -- and he knows nothing about EDA!"
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
You got pwned on the Metrics CloudSim story. No such company exists.
You'll see when you try to google it.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Are you sure this Metric story isn't a prank? I can't find it.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
You might want to check your Metrics user contact again.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Does Metrics have a web site? Google cannot find it.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Something's wrong. Metrics Technologies makes IC mfg SW.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Is this an actual EDA company? It's not on Google.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Google: Metrics EDA -- U.S. Dept. of Agriculture
Metrics cloud -- Amazon cloud metrics
Metrics Verilog -- Cadence
Metrics simulator -- surgical simulator
Metrics CloudSim -- Java cloud simulator
????
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Wow. You got the Metrics story before they even set up a
website.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
No web site for Metrics?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Cool story, but too early. They don't even have a web site yet.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Do you know the web site for them?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I don't think this is ready for prime time yet. Early alpha.
No web presence yet.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Who does an EDA start-up without a web page?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Metrics is too general a name. Google can't find them.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Do you have their web site? We'd like to learn more.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Can't find them.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Metrics is a home automation company going into EDA?
Is that wise? Or is Nest too threatening?
