Subject: Mike Gianfagna on NextOp, Synopsys, IPO, Apache, Denali, bundles
DAC'13 Troublemaker's Panel in Austin, TXMike Gianfagna of Atrenta discusses why NextOp chose not to merge
with Synopsys, you can be 1 of 300 Atrenta employees or 1 of
8,000 Synopsys employees. NextOp would have been lost inside of
the Synopsys empire. Is Atrenta IPO-ing or not? Got growth, got
strategic value, we're leaning that way.
Jim Hogan - we gotta have an IPO in EDA. Apache almost did it.
Denali was close to trying it. If we don't get an IPO, the users
are stuck getting "chump change" for tools.
Gary Smith - the users are looking for a roll-up in the middle.
There's a whole class of EDA problems that aren't being addressed
by the bundled package by Synopsys/Cadence/Mentor. Users want a
mid-range EDA company like Verisity was. The Big 3 don't deliver
all that's needed with their bundles.
