Editor's Note: I was surprized at the number of engineers, both male
and female, who either wrote something quite insightful or very funny
on this. We have some clever people hidden in chip design! - John

I dislike Peggy's presumption that women are helpless victims who need
protecting. In my entire work career, it's been the men around me who
needed protection. I can more than take care of myself, thank you.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
If we keep seeing the whole world through Peggy's gender lens, we will
never be seen as equals.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I abhor the idea of one person deciding what is and what is not
appropriate for me to see.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Oh, John. You're in trouble now. The Angry Sisters and the "sensitive"
New Age men are going to come at you with torches and pitch forks!
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Wow. If you wrote that and you worked in my company they'd send you away
for two days of sensitivity training. And then probably fire you, too.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Maybe Peggy would have been OK with the cheerleaders if they came out
wearing burkas?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Well, you fired her up now. ;)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I dislike the whole idea of Women in EDA. Kathryn Kranen, Penny
Herscher, Deirdre Hanford, Kelly Perey have proved we're equal to
men in EDA. Instead it should be an award for People in EDA.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
This seems like a tempest in a teapot, John. Sexism at work died back
in the 1980's. Seriously. Now everyone I know is worried about layoffs,
jobs going overseas, and if their kids (male or female) will have a
chance at a good job in America in the future.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Thank you for saying what we guys can't say.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
John, you sexist chauvinist pig! :) (Keep up the good work!)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Amen, brother!
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Hilarious!
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I see nothing wrong with it. I like men. I also like that men like
women. We're made for each other.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I think Gabe and Peggy are just angry that they're getting older.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why are you Americans so offended by a celebration of the human body?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Way to go, John!
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Censorship, no matter what the excuse, should not be tolerated.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Yay, cheerleaders and parties! Boo, Peggy and Gabe!
(P.S. I orginally wrote "Yay, cheerleaders, John, and parties"; but
the mental image of you in a cheerleader uniform was not good...)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why can't you play nice with the other bloggers, John?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
My coffee went up my nose while reading your Peggy/Gabe post. Thanx.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Re: you crushing Peggy & Gabe -- BRAVO!
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Remember all those articles that Peggy wrote about the "Mancession";
where men were losing jobs at a much higher rate than women? OOOOPS!
Peggy never wrote anything about that. She only speaks up for women.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Leave Peggy alone. She's the only voice women have in EDA.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Gabe doesn't like a party? He didn't seem to mind the free wine and
great food Synopsys fed the bloggers Synopsys likes on DAC Tuesday.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why do old people want to deny to the young today the same fun that
they enjoyed themselves in their own youth?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I'll listen to these two about right or wrong EDA marketing after
their first multi-million dollar IPO. Or acquisition.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Grandpa Gabe needs to get with the program. There has not been a
Wednesday night DAC party in two years. That was cancelled years
back due to LACK OF ATTENDANCE! And replaced with the DAC evening
receptions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Peggy is not happy about her legacy and is taking a stand for women
in EDA. Truth is the 49ers cheerleaders (or 49er players for that
matter) are entertainers. So if you got issues with cheerleaders
dancing in the morning, good luck on changing that.
I personally prefer trying to help young folks be successful in the
businesses and trying to deliver good tools. I want to add a few
more millionaires to the tax roles so Obama can spend it on things
I don't care about.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
My CEO, Ravi Subramanian, would gladly require every male executive
employed at Berkeley-DA to come to work in Speedos if it resulted in
increased AFS sales. EDA is all about business. What the customer
wants is what the customer gets. Period.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why is Peggy stuck in a 1960's men-are-evil feminism time warp? It's
the year 2012. My daughter, an EE working in the U.S., is much more
concerned about her job being outsourced to China, India, Brazil, or
Armenia than about scantily dressed cheerleaders at DAC.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
You should go easy on the DAC Committee, John. You know how things
like this work. If there is one person offended by an action, then
the DAC Committee needs to be sensitive not to offend anyone.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Where did you find that Beverly Hillbillies pic of granny with the
two casino bimbos? It was perfect!
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Someone should send Peggy the memo that today's biggest problem in
America is not women oppressed at work, but that both men's *and*
women's jobs in the U.S. are being shipped wholesale overseas.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Who the #%&* cares about cheerleaders at DAC? My job went to India
and it ain't coming back.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I'm gay. Female cheerleaders have nothing I want. But I loved that
DAC was held in San Francisco. It should be held there every year.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Please tell Peggy that since the beginning of time, beautiful woman
have used their real power of sex appeal to manipulate both men and
women. Enclosed is the Pam Anderson ad campaign by PETA to promote
vegetarian living. Ms. Anderson is neither a victim here; nor is
PETA being disgraced. In fact PETA gained legitimacy because a famous
female beauty endorsed them. If a very highly ethical organization
like PETA can do this, why can't DAC?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Thank God for Peggy! If I had seen those cheerleaders at DAC I don't
know what I would have done. You know how completely sex-crazed we
design engineering men folk can get.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
John, why are you wasting time with this *&^% ?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Shame on you, John. You run the most influential site in EDA yet you
wasted our attention with two old coots whinging about entertainers and
parties at a bloody trade show? That's not EDA news and you know it.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why is it when the secretary down the hall puts up a calender in her
cube of nearly naked men and tells dirty jokes, she's said to be
"empowered"; yet if I put up a calendar of nearly naked women and
tell the exact same dirty jokes, I'm a "sexual harasser"?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why do Americans get so stressed about any hint of sex?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I don't understand what the fuss is about. Me and my children standing
in line at the grocery store see more explicit sex on the front covers
of women's magazines than anything those cheerleaders would have done.
(My 11 year old daughter once asked me what "Bad Girl Sex" was after
reading it on the front cover of Cosmo magazine!)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Wow, John. "Feminazi"? So, denying you your chance to see hot women
dance, and killing 6 million Jews, are exactly the same? There were
plenty of places in SF where you could have seen a better show. Of
course, it would have to be out of your own pocket, but that's only
fair. Women have a tough enough time in our field without constant
reminders that they don't belong.
And your personal attacks on Peggy Aycinena were way over the top.
- Joe Buck of Synopsys, Inc.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
You're in rare form today, John. I had to pick myself up off the floor
from laughing. I hope you write for 100 years.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
We do not have many female students interested in EDA. An all-macho talk
about getting us beer and cheerleaders will drive new female students
away from choosing EDA. Not a good strategy.
A give us beer and cheerleaders attitude is not positive and will not
contribute to reach gender equilibrium in the long term, which is always
desirable.
Ironically, many of the people who would be offended by a cheerleader
show in the USA could happily see a "Show de Mulatas" here in Brazil
and not be offended by it.
- Prof. Andre Reis of UFRGS - Brazil
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Tell Peggy that I thought Cadence had the best booth babes this year.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I read your article about Peggy with sadness, not for Peggy but for the
sad males you describe, acting out classic "I'm out of town" behavior.
Perhaps the same thing happened to Gabe as happened to me. You realize
the women that you are looking at with your tongue hanging out are the
same age as your daughter. It is a chilling experience.
- Tim Alton of LTX-Credence Corp.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Sorry, John, I agree with Peggy on this one.
- Shalom Bresticker of Intel Jerusalem
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Thanks for the amusing cheerleader story.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Peggy's right. The 49ers Cheerleaders should NOT be allowed to show at
DAC. It should have been the San Jose Saberkittens instead. Engineers
don't live in San Franciso. They all live in or near San Jose.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
It's posts like Gabe's and Peggy's are why I tell my kids to get jobs
at Google or Facebook or FourSquare; and NOT in EDA. One sign of a
dying software segment is when old farts focused on keeping its main
conference "unoffensive" is its biggest news.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
We're wasting energy in the U.S. infighting about stupid nonsense issues
like this??? And people wonder why America is in decline? Why is it no
surprise that China and India are the economies of the future???
