The idiot's analysis of this data would be to compare 2009 numbers to the
2012 numbers because both were in San Francisco and say attendance was flat.
This idiot approach completely ignores the horrific econmomic changes that
happened between 2009 and 2012. Specifically:
San Jose Unemployment:

BETWEEN 2009 AND 2012, EVERYTHING IN THE U.S. GOT ECONOMICALLY WORSE!

The other idiot approach would be to look at year-to-year total numbers
of 2011 6,320 total vs. 2012 7,388 total and say attendance was up 17%.
That's wrong because, despite whatever B.S. the DAC Committee tries to spoon
feed you, what DAC really is ABOVE ALL ELSE is the world's one giant annual
EDA tool shopping trip.
And who are the EDA BUYERS? They're NOT the exhibitors and NOT the people
paying full price to see papers at DAC -- they're the cheap ass engineers
who pay nothing to see the new bumper crop of EDA on the DAC Exhibit Floor;
(i.e. the Exhibit-Only Attendees) -- and their attendance was up 39%!!!!
Yeah, baby!
And yea, I have to agree with the naysayers that *some* of the Exhibit-Only
guys were there because San Franciso is closer to San Jose than San Diego
was in DAC'11 -- keep in mind while San Jose has all of that bad economic
news dragging it down -- its EDA buyers still came out in droves!
