WTF!? Why the #$%* did Wally NOT buy Magma?????
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
What went wrong in the LAVA deal? It should have been MENT + LAVA
instead of SNPS + LAVA.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
To Joe and Lip-Bu:
Concerning SNPS/LAVA, how do you plan to recover from such
a strategic mistake? Aart now owns 70 percent of PNR!
MENT & CDNS are so screwed!
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
To Joe:
Does the recent shareholder criticism of EDA companies management
amount to bullying in favour of short term profit over long term
strategic growth?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Did the spectre of Icahn micromanaging Mentor's every move stop
you from buying Magma?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Did Mentor tell the FTC to block the SNPS-LAVA merger?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
What did you think of Bruggeman's EDA360 vision of everything in EDA
moving up to System Level tools?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
For Mentor and Calypto:
1. Has High level synthesis totally saturated its market?
Is every user EDA can sell this to already using it?
2. Does EDA have any interest in "ESL" or "System Level"
beyond the 2 obvious areas (which were both tried in
the 90's as well, and the 2000s, and....) of High Level
Synthesis and Virtual Prototypes?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
What did you think of Aart's moves into System Level tools?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why is it so hard for EDA companies to "cross the chasm" into software
development?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why did you abandon Catapult C to Calytpo? Was it pressure from Carl
Icahn to get rid of anything not making a high margin in sales?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
If Icahn sells his MENT shares, is MENT going to buy back Catapult?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Does Mentor think ESL is dead? Why dump the product line to Calypto?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
There have been persistant rumors that Carl Ichan has been pushing
Mentor to spin off its Veloce product line? Is this true? If not,
why didn't Mentor speak out against these Veloce rumors when they
came up?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why are you suing EVE? Is it to stop Synopsys from acquiring EVE?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Do you, Joe, personally agree with Mentor suing EVE? In your
opinion is this a justified lawsuit or business maneuverings?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Is the Verilog/VHDL simulation market a commodity market now?
Where the simulators are fairly close to each other and all that
users should care about is price per license?
If NOT, out of Questa/VCS/Incisive, which is better and why?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
What the last benchmark Questa won and by how much did it win?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Where's 0-in been for the past 5 years? Do you still sell it?
I see it was remaned "Questa Formal Verification", but I never
hear of it anymore at any conferences. Does anyone still use it?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
What happened to Precision and LeonardoSpectrum FPGA tools? You
don't hear of them any more. How much has Synopsys Synplicity
taken and (more likely) how much have free FPGA tools from Xilinx
and Altera taken away?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
For Joe, Aart, and Lip-Bu
Can Synopsys and Cadence give developers FPGA-only versions
of tools so that all their Verilog HDL IP for FPGA will not
be as expensive as Verilog IP for Asic??? (Most developers
are not develop super ASICs for super Giga speed. Most
developers in the world are doing the lower speed FPGAs.)
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Has Calibre InRoute helped Olympus SoC sales significantly?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Was the Sierra Olympus SoC acquistion a $90 million mistake? Please
name 5 top tier accounts who are using it for production digital PNR.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why use Olympus when I can get a better bundled deal from Synopsys
or Cadence?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
My question would be for Joe Sawicki. Given that you have had years
to develop Sierra and with the departure of Magma from this domain
the space is ripe for more competition. It is widely expected that
Synopsys and Cadence will be raising prices (significantly) on each
contract renewal which provides someone else an excellent opportunity.
Will Mentor step up and take advantage of this situation?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Aart just bought a 70 percent share of PNR. How does Mentor plan
to survive this?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Was the LogicVision acquisition worth $13 million? Did Mentor's
LBIST, MBIST, ATPG, scan, etc. marketshare grow by $13 million?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Has MENT given up on Eldo? It's the whipping boy of SPICE.
Why is Mentor so weak in SPICE? It's a core EDA competency.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Does anyone actually use IC Station? Why not EOF it?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
What happened to Pyxis? Before their joining Mentor they made
some news. After joining Mentor, no news.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Please name who's using Pyxis in production designs today.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
MENTOR: You started with the initiative to use Calibre "on the fly"
fab-level DRC clean. Calibre DRC license is 125K? Do you see a
problem? Do you have a solution for the small users who do not
have unlimited pools of licenses?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Calibre RealTime only works in Mentor IC Station and SpringSoft
Laker. Why make a tool that misses 95% of the custom/AMS market?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Didn't anyone inside Mentor think maybe you should perhaps
integrate Calibre RealTime into Virtuoso?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Before the Synopsys acquisition, Calibre was losing benchmarks to
Magma Quartz DRC. Now that Synopsys has both Hercules and Quartz,
does this spell the end of the Mentor Calibre DRC monopoly?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
What's your game plan to keep Calibre on top now that Aart has
acquired LAVA Quartz?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why should my company buy Calibre when we can get discounts from
Synopsys for Hercules, ICV, and Quartz DRC when we're buying
IC Compiler licenses?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why should we buy Calibre DRC/LVS? Cadence & Synopsys DRC/LVS
is good enough. Why not let TSMC, GloFlo, UMC pay for the Calibre
licenses for a final check instead of us?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
In rough figures, what sales does MENT make in PCB? How does this
contrast to CDNS PCB?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Is your PCB marketshare growing or shrinking relative to the others?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Does Mentor actually make money today from its odd tools like
Wire Harness Design, Mechnical Design, and Automotive tools?
Aren't these distractions from Mentor's core mission?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Is vertical the way to go in EDA (e.g., automotive, medical, MEMS,
photonics, etc. design automation)?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
