Subject: HW forums cite rumor that TSMC suddenly halted 28 nm production
Nerdy hardware forums like OverClockers.com, HardwareCanucks.com, NCIX.com,
and Hexus.net along with some tech savvy Wall St. forms like Benzinga.com,
InvestorVillage.com, and even the cheesy Yahoo Finance have recently been
abuzz with Charlie Demerjian's:
"TSMC SUDDENLY HALTS 28 NM PRODUCTON
No, we are not kidding, complete stop
Sit down before you read this one, we will wait for a second
while you do. OK, now, where to begin other than the obvious,
TSMC shut down 28 nm production about three weeks ago.
No, we are not joking, word has reached SemiAccurate that TSMC
halted 100% of 28 nm production in mid-February to make unnamed
changes to the process. ...
Sources tell SemiAccurate that the stoppage was quite sudden,
and production should resume in short order. One source said
that by the end of March, volumes would be back to where they
were before if not a lot better. Checks with the channel have
confirmed an abrupt stop in 28 nm chip shipments, not that
there were many to begin with.
TSMC is privately promising a quick and planned down time with
a resumption in production very soon.
Whether wafers in process were continued, paused, or scrapped
is not known."

No, this is not news from a crazy crackpot HW blogger site.
From Feb 2010 to August 2011, Charlie Demerjian has had a good track record
of breaking news stories like: Nvidia Fermi, defective Sony graphics chips,
Apple dropping Intel, and AMD's unreleased mobile graphics line up.
While Demerjian currently has the scoop on this, so far none of his rival
HW rumor sites like TheInquirer.net nor TomsHardware.com have yet to
publically confirm or deny this story.
