Hi, John,

Jim covered variation-aware custom IC design, but that's only a piece of
the picture. When you include Magma's entire flow with optimization and
simulation technology -- it pushes us to the #1 ranking for analog design
overall.

Magma AMS sales are growing faster than BlastFusion did pre-IPO!

Magma's approach with Titan and FineSim is to:

  1. Implement your analog circuit as correct-by-construction. To do
this, Titan uses a optimization engine that works with "FlexCells,"
which are process- and specification- independent descriptions of
analog circuits. Titan optimizes FlexCells for your target process
and specification to produce robust device sizes over many PVT
corners without requiring SPICE simulation. FlexCells can be as
small as an OpAmp or as large as entire PLL or even SerDes.

Titan uses math-based optimization algorithms (which are correct-by-
construction) to produce SPICE-accurate results. Titan globally
optimizes your entire circuit at once without requiring any SPICE
     simulation loops for device sizing.

  2. Titan's built-in analog design optimization engine lets designers
apply constraints to deal with intra-chip random variations plus
it makes sure that the circuit created post-optimization is not
     susceptible to device-to-device fluctuations.

  3. Titan lets circuit designers create quick floorplans (without
burdening them with detailed physical layout nuances) and it
captures layout effects related to stress impact from transistor
to transistor. Titan's optimization then takes into account
these layout-dependent effects to produce layout-aware device
sizes, minimizing iterations between layout and schematic design.
Titan's device placement and AMS routing capabilities automate
     and accelerate overall design flow.

  4. FineSim for analog verification; it has the capacity for top-level
analog blocks (including post-layout parasitics) yet still offers
SPICE accuracy at faster sim speeds.

  5. Your typical Monte Carlo analysis is slow and won't predict circuit
failures in an acceptable amount of time. Our FineSim Fast Monte
Carlo can quickly predict 3 or even 6 sigma results plus accurately
predict performance degradation due to yield detractors like
random-dopant fluctuations and other random gradients.

We crafted the Titan and FineSim tools with next generation analog flow in
mind. Put this with what Jim Hogan said about Magma and you'll see why
we rank #1.
