Hi John,

It's true I'm leaving SpringSoft, although entirely by my own choice. After
10 years in one place, it's simply time for me to do something else. I
decided several years ago -- before we even talked about merging Novas with
SpringSoft -- that I would leave when I turned 50.

My birthday is on March 15, and after that my work here will be done. We
announced the change internally back in November, and as of January 1 all
of my duties shifted to other managers.

Martin Lu, President & CEO (Taiwan)

     Johnson Teng, COO (Taiwan)

Bill Shepard, Vice President of Sales

Oz Levia, Vice President of Marketing

Rob van Blommestein, Director of Marketing Communications

Martin and Johnson were ECAD Taiwan, then Cadence Taiwan before they founded
E-Team (distributor in Taiwan for Avanti and Quickturn, as well as Chrysalis
and others) and SpringSoft. Bill has been at Novas since 1999, and Oz has
been here since 2006.

My plan for this year is to take time to figure out "what's next". I don't
intend to jump into anything full-time until the end of the year. I'm hoping
to do some consulting, but who knows with this economy. It's been a great
ride here at Novas/SpringSoft, and I look forward to future adventures in
EDA; I'm sending this from my new personal @snoplace.com email so you can
keep me on your mailing list.

Hey, Scott,

I did some snooping and found EDA people outside of SpringSoft who confirmed
that you had told them approximately 18 months ago that you planned to leave
SpringSoft at age 50. (Sorry I "checked" on you; you'd be surprized what BS
vendors try to pass off on me sometimes in order to hide the truth.)

So you really, truly are leaving SpringSoft because you're turning 50.

ARE YOU &%$#ING NUTS???

The economy is raining crap from the sky out there and NOW you want
to VOLUNTARILY walk away from a stable well paying job?????????

DID YOU FALL AND HIT YOUR HEAD AND GET BRAIN DAMAGE????

DID YOU JOIN A SPACE CULT AND AN ASTEROID HITS EARTH ON MARCH 15TH?

W! T! F! ARE YOU DOING, SCOTT!?!?

Hi John,

No problem on the checking up -- it's the kind of story that you would want
to have corroborated.

I've been commuting from Oregon to San Jose weekly for 10 years, and I'm
ready for a break. We've got no debt, we can afford to pay the bills for a
year, my wife is supportive of the idea, so why not? I've never worried
about whether I would be able to get a job (well, since my first one I
guess.) Things tend to pop up when you're not looking, and I've also always
felt that people have a lot of power to make things happen if they really
put their mind and energy into it. Who knows, I might decide to start a
company -- maybe in EDA, maybe some sort of small business. I may decide
to try writing a book. Too many ideas. I need time to sort it out.

This actually isn't the first time I've "dropped out." In 1992 my wife and
I bought our 30 acres in Oregon -- bare land, just trees. In 1993 I quit my
job and spent 6 months as a temp at Avid while our house was on the market.
Once it sold, we packed everything in a truck and moved to Oregon. We put
everything in a storage unit and lived in an apartment while we built a
barn, drilled a well, put in a road, and installed a 14' x 56' mobile home.
We lived in that mobile home for 3 years while we designed and built the
house (with our own hands.)

This summer we're going to build an addition on the house (wife says we need
more space now that kids are in college!) and do a lot of gardening; it was
our plan to build a somewhat self-sufficient (or at least "sustainable")
lifestyle. The Novas job and the commute to San Jose was a sidetrack; which
I don't regret in the least and wouldn't trade for anything -- and it's time
to get back to the plan.

If you ever get out to Oregon I'd love to show you the place; I think you'd
like it given what you've written about your farm.

Hey, Scott,

After reading your last letter, I *finally* realized the REAL truth.

Aart's trying to buy SpringSoft and to step up the pressure for you guys to
accept a lowball price, he hired a gypsy fortune teller to personally put
an evil curse on you -- just like what Mike Fister did to Wally when Cadence
tried to take over Mentor years ago!

If you want, I can give you the name of the STRONGER gypsy fortune teller
that Wally used to break Mike Fister's curse.  Wally highly recommends her;
and so does Rajeev. (Rajeev used her earlier to survive the Synopsys-Magma
Death Lawsuit. That's how Wally first found out about her.)

Do you want her name and contact info?

Hi John,

Uh.... That's OK. I don't need it.
