Subject: VC deals for Silicon Valley start-ups dropped by 30% in 2009

Hi, John,

Anon pls.

Did you see this Sunday's Mercury News? Here's data on VC deal counts in
the SF Bay Area from the MoneyTree Report:

      2003: ########################## 864 deals
      2004: ############################# 951 deals
      2005: ############################## 987 deals
      2006: #################################### 1206 deals
      2007: ###################################### 1255 deals
      2008: ##################################### 1232 deals
      2009: ########################## 863 deals

That 30 percent crash in 2009 is killing us. We're a chip start-up that
can't get funding. The average deal in the report was $8 million. All we
need is $3 million, but we can't even get that.

How do EDA vendors expect to survive if their customers can't survive?
