Hi John,
I wanted to mention our experiences with another DM tool that competes with
IC Manage and DesignSync called "VersIC" from MethodICs. VersIC integrates
either Subversion or Perforce in the Cadence DFII environment with a
unified interface.
We use Perforce as our backend repository and currently have many designers
working concurrently and seamlessly with it across 3 design centers in
Mountain View, Bangalore and Mumbai. In everyday use, their tool is
transparent to our users since checkin/checkout operations happen in the
background during edits/saves. Remote access is set up for the India
offices with proxy/metadata depots yielding local response times for
Cadence/VersIC operations.
Our most recent tapeout incorporated over 35K commits to the database, and
the access speed was virtually unchanged from the beginning of the project
to the end. We didn't lose a single piece of design data caused by
database corruption.
As well as the DM functionality, VersIC does
- schematic/layout visual diffs which show changes between versions
- repository data-mining
- stale data auto updates
Overall, we are very pleased with our VersIC experience and I feel it is a
strong solution for DM in the Cadence environment.
