Hi, John,

I see the logic behind Caroline Hayes' argument, but I also wonder if they'
keep statistics how often an EDA article is read (vs. some other articles).

I have a feeling that EDA articles might have a broader appeal to EE Times
readers and it's a technology common/fundamental to all IC designers. I
could be wrong but am interested to know the statistics (esp. for the
on-line version).

I am also very much saddened by the fact that Richard is let go. His news
is very much respected. He also did several very nice coverages of EDA
research from UCLA (e.g. placement optimality gap, placement contest, logic
synthesis optimality gap, etc), which generated the community-wide interest
to these research problems.

Dear John,

As one who bagged mechanical CAD journalism after 21 years of having fun
with it, I'd say Richard Goering was lucky to have been fired. He'll
probably make a better living as a consultant and be able to write more of
what he wants now that he has left EE Times.

The magazine business model is broken. Web 2.0 media such as ESNUG are the
future. You are a pioneer for having started your newsletter. It continues
to be an egalitarian (if sometimes wordy) source of information about EDA.

Keep giving them Hell.
