Hi, John,
Your "Must See" list for DAC is really ticking me off.
We are not, as you would portray us, a 1-product company. Describing Denali
as just "having a monopoly on memory models" was accurate 7 years ago. It
was tolerable the 2nd and 3rd time you mentioned it. But now its getting
downright silly. Frankly, I'm surprised you're using the same joke 3 years
in a row! There's a fine line between reuse & abuse. That's not like you,
John. Are you getting lazy? You certainly haven't been too busy working
on the "2007 Verification Census" - let's see, DVCon was in February? ...
So, here are a few other ways that Denali impacts this industry:
- PCI Express Verification IP: Our PureSpec verification IP for PCI Express
has earned 85% market share, which means 100's of customers are relying
on Denali PureSpec to get their PCI Express products done and done right.
And don't forget that PCI Express represents one of the most pervasive
and complex interface standards in semiconductor history. Not to mention
Sanjay tells me that our market share for the entire VIP line, which
includes USB, SATA, AMBA, PLB, and Ethernet, exceeds the rest of the
industry combined.
- DDR Memory Controller Design IP: Databahn is the most dominant DDR
controller product in the industry, and our team has more experience
developing, delivering and implementing DDR interfaces than any other
team on the planet: 240 design-wins and 93 controllers in production
silicon. Delivering this IP for a range of applications from cell
phones and printers, to routers and supercomputers is no trivial
task - just ask anyone.
- DDR PHY: We recently demonstrated our leadership in the DDR ecosystem by
bringing together ARM, Intel, Rambus, Samsung and Synopsys to develop a
specification for the interface between DDR controllers and DDR PHYs.
Big deal? Absolutely. And thanks to leadership from Intel, we finished
it in 4 months, and already have 1,135 licensees of the specification.
- NAND Flash Controllers and Software: NAND Flash represents the most
significant innovation in storage in the last 40 yrs. Denali is on the
forefront of providing design IP and embedded software solutions for
that market. BTW, when you go out & buy that new Hybrid Hard Disk Drive
from Samsung, remember that Denali's Flash controller is "inside".=
- ESL/SystemRDL: OK, so ESL gets a mixed rap for definition & terminology.
But Denali is doing its part to increase customer's ability to develop
more efficiently at a higher level of abstraction. That's why we
donated the SystemRDL language to the SPIRIT Consortium, and drive
substantial productivity gains through our Blueprint compiler.
- Memory Ecosystem: With help from our memory vendor partners, Denali built
the world's largest memory conference from scratch. Now in our 6th year,
spanning China, Japan, and North America, MemCon attendees in the 1000's
gather for exclusive presentations and panel sessions with leading
memory and storage experts.
- Industry Citizenship: Denali is represented on the Board of Directors for
Accellera and EDAC, and we are active participants in a variety of
industry organizations like: JEDEC, FSA, Power.org, SPIRIT, VSIA, etc.
So you are right, 95% market share for commercial memory models may not be
sexy, but we are proud of our humble beginnings, the commitment of our
fantastic team of employees, and the opportunity to serve our customers.
So please, when you talk about Denali, show a little respect big fella!
