You are wrong, John.
I'm not PO'd that 'SystemC use numbers dropped' in your Verification Census;
because they didn't. I am PO'd because you claimed they dropped when you
have no evidence that this is even the case. I am trying to figure out why
you still said in your headline:
DVcon07-11 "SystemC use dropped by 1/2 in the past 2 years"
when you had no idea what the trend actually was. Gary Smith cautioned you
BEFORE you posted your survey that you could not cite a trend here because
you had asked two *different* questions about SystemC in your 2005 and 2007
surveys: One on expected future usage and one on actual usage. Way to go
with the survey, "Nielson"!
So, the baseline number you found is 23% of designers are using SystemC in
a current project. I will accept that, even though more than 50% of the
people that Forte speaks with are using SystemC already.
But there is still the unanswered question: Is SystemC usage growing? Forte
sees it growing -- most significantly in the US, based on new interest among
the prospects there. But in terms of 'hard data' OSCI membership grew 24%
from 2005 and 2007, from 25 to 31 companies. This includes non-EDA vendors
such as ARM, Intel, NXP, ST Micro, Broadcom, Canon, Freescale, Infineon, and
NEC. The number of OSCI downloads grew 40% from April 2005 to April 2007
from 211,840 to 297,511.
Come on John, it's time let go of your bias! SystemC has solid traction in
the design community.

Moshe decided "to pass" on why his Specman "e" numbers dropped. - John
