( ESNUG 460 Item 4 ) -------------------------------------------- [01/11/07]
Subject: Contact me if you want custom data on the 2006 keyword searches
SLICE AND DICE: In rough numbers, half of DeepChip's traffic comes from
people going to the website directly from the ESNUG mailing (or by typing
"www.DeepChip.com" in their brower's address bar) and the other half comes
from people doing Google searches. Here's the exact data of how people
get to DeepChip.com:
DeepChip.com directly typed: ###################### 44.4%
Google search: ##################### 41.9%
Yahoo search: # 3.1%
MSN search: 0.4%
EEtimes.com link: ## 4.4%
EDN.com link: 0.2%
all other web sites: ### 5.6%
Now the interesting question is exactly what are the keywords used in those
searches to find these ESNUG stories? The problem is that keywords tend to
be *unique*; no two people tend to use the *exact* search engine keywords
to find the same articles.
One person types "primetime bug". Another types "timing primetime". Yet
another "synopsys sta". And a forth types "primetime tutorial". In the net
stats program I use, these all belong to the primetime GROUP of keywords and
are reported as:
primetime report_timing 20
synopsys primetime manual 20
primetime manual 18
primetime tcl 16
ddr primetime 15
primetime signoff script 11
synopsys primetime download 9
primetime ddr 9
primetime si noise glitch analysis 7
Where the keywords "primetime report_timing" was used 20 times to reach a
DeepChip article; and "ddr primetime" used 15 times; and "primetime si
noise glitch analysis" 7 times.
The total (score) of the "primetime" keyword GROUP is:
20 + 20 + 18 + 16 + 15 + 11 + 9 + 9 + 7 = 125 score
The rest of this ESNUG post are examples of keyword GROUPS with real data
from the 2006 DeepChip searches. Contact me directly at
http://www.deepchip.com/contacts.html
if you have specific keyword GROUPS you'd like to suggest I report. Tell
me what keyword string specifically, and I'll run it through the net stats
program with the 2006 data. Look at the examples and you'll understand.
P.S. If you contact me, please include your cell phone number and your
time zone relative to Boston. We'll need to talk, because my net
stats program is tricky to run.
