Hi, John,
To respond to Thomas' question, Forte formed when CynApps and Chronology
merged in 2001. Forte decided to put its development resources into
SystemC instead of Cynlib in September 2001.
Our primary reason was that the two class libraries solved the same
problem -- providing a hardware layer of abstraction for C++. Regardless
of the relative merits of the two libraries, it is better to have a single,
standard C++ class library than to have two competing ones. Designers are
best served by having a rich set of products which support a single way of
doing design in C++, and SystemC has become that method.
SystemC has made its way to being a full standard under the oversight of
the Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI). Forte is actively involved with OSCI
and is currently the leading contributor to the SystemC reference
simulator, so some of the best parts of Cynlib have been finding their
way into the OSCI SystemC implementation.
