Hi, John,
You can read more about it at the http://www.cadenceusers.org/ link. The
new steering committee has 22 members, 7 of them from Cadence. What's
the big surprise? Much of the ICU conference has been driven by
Cadence anyway.

Hi John,
Anonymous please!!
I just attended the Cadence user group meeting in Munich (Germany). There
you could get the impression that the main task of this meeting was to
present new software and features that Cadence developed w/ some partners.
2 out of 4 presentations I attended were about software that were developed
together with the company of the presenter and were not yet available to
the complete audiance. A third presentation was about how great one
specific tool is without giving any technical detail others could use.
Only the 4th was the sort of presentation I expected, a real live design
and a describtion of some problems and their sollution.
On the other hand I don't know how many paper applications Cadence got for
the event. If you look at last year's Magma user group meeting in Bristol
(UK) there were only 4 papers handed in. So if there are not enough users
there to share their experience that matters to all of us. Then the EDA
companies have nearly no other choice then to take over or to fill our
events with their marketing. We all expect nowadays from the EDA companies
to have a user group meeting.
Lets face it: If there are enough users active in a user group then it is
impossible for the EDA companies to take over.

Hi John,
This must be the development that your old timer perceived as a takeover.
The press release says that Cadence will have 7 seats on a 22-member
steering committee. I don't know if its fair to call that a take-over,
but I don't know any details about this. From a personal perspective as
a regular ICU attendee, its independence from Cadence is one of the big
charms of this user group.
