Subject: Did Someone Hack Into DeepChip? What's With The Joke Banner Ads?

> The Sequence salesman who came to our office last week loved the spoof
> banner ad at the bottom of DeepChip. Did Sequence break into DeepChip
> to place that joke Apache ad there?

From: John Cooley <jcooley@TheWorld.com>

Nope. No one broke into DeepChip. I decided a month ago that every Monday
I'd publish a new joke banner ad near the real banner ad at the bottom of
every DeepChip page. Why not have a little fun with life? The rules:

1.) Anyone can send in the idea for a joke banner ad suggestion. You
can even send in the completed joke banner ad itself. You can be
an EDA user, an EDA vendor, anyone. It just has to be funny.

2.) All contributions for joke banner ads are strictly anonymous. I
won't divulge the person nor company of whoever sends in a joke ad.

For example, Verisity can submit anon anti-Synopsys joke ads and
Synopsys can submit anon anti-Verisity joke ads. A Magma user can
submit an anon anti-Cadence joke ad. A Mentor employee can send
in an anon anti-Mentor joke ad. A paid external PR agency can submit
anon anti-Synplicity joke ads. Cliff Cummings could submit an anon
anti-John Cooley joke ad. I don't care who sends what in; it just
has to be funny. I treat all joke ad submitals as anonymous.

3.) All joke banner ads are free. Like Saturday Night Live, joke ads
are part of DeepChip content, not the paid advertiser content.

4.) The joke banner ad must have something to do with EDA, IP, chip
design or the public figures in those industries. (Public figures
are the people mentioned in EE Times and/or company press
releases.) Again, there are no sacred cows here, just keep it funny.

5.) The joke banner ad has to link to a real web sight. For example,
that "Apache's pre-DAC equipment provider" ad linked to SpyLife.com,
a real on-line seller of spy equipment. Who or what you link to
must to be part of the humor.

6.) Use "Subject: DeepChip joke banner" to mark your contribution.
My spam filter will look to let that email pass. Joke banner ads
that you make yourself must be 60 by 468 pixels, 72 pixels/inch,
animated gifs no bigger than 30 kB, preferably 20 kB or less.
Include the URL the joke banner is supposed to link to, also.
Submit as many joke ads as you want. No limits.

7.) The joke bottom banner ad changes every Monday on DeepChip.

So if you have an idea for a joke EDA banner ad, send it to me. Or if you
have already made your own joke banner ad, send it to me. You might see it
published on DeepChip next Monday, if it's funny enough! :)
