The Wiretap Intercept No. 060523
opinions and skeptical speculations too small to fit into an Industry Gadfly column

Last week the infamous EDA Peggy (everyone calls her "EDA Peggy" because no
one can remember how to spell her last name) published the results of her
survey where she asked the EDA vendors: "What's going to be the 'buzz' at
the upcoming 2006 DAC in San Francisco?".

She got 65 responses and, of course, 59 of them were the usual self-promoting
EDA vendor infomercials pimping their own particular set of EDA tools. But,
by some quirk, 6 of them slipped up and were accidentally honest!

"What's hot at DAC in San Francisco? San Francisco won't be hot, it
will be cold. Bring a sweater! Remember what Mark Twain said, 'The
coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.'"

       - Dale Pollock, CEO of ChipMD

"At DAC, anyone mentioning Moore's Law will be kidnapped by people in
Ninja suits and will never be seen again."

       - Dave Rich, Verification Manager at Mentor Graphics

"There's nothing hot at DAC, but that's not important, because DAC is the
place for me to see my customers, to interact with academia and other
vendors. It's all there and more than enough of a value proposition for
the conference. It's not like a car show, where you have to have new
   products every year!

       - Michel Ligthart, COO at Verific

"The buzz at DAC? It's very simple. The vendor floor will continue to
consolidate and the show is going to turn back into a technical paper
show. DAC will go back to its roots as a show for technology."

       - Robert Hum, GM for Test at Mentor Grapics

"I'm an analog guy. I don't go to DAC. I leave that to Dave Maliniak!"

       - Don Tuite, Analog Editor at Electronic Design magazine

"The buzz at DAC? I won't be there! (I miss EDA!)"

       - Jen Bernier, The Hoffman Agency

At one time Jen Bernier used to do PR at Armstong Kendall representing CoWare,
Cadence, Axis, PDF, TransEDA, OrCAD, InTime, LisaTek, and SpinCircuit. She
then callously turned her back on Big Moma EDA to do public relations at the
Hoffman for non-EDA co's like Novellus, Dimatix, and Celsia.

P.S. And I double dare anyone to *correctly* spell EDA Peggy's last name! :)
