Hi, John,
Finally! After all these years someone is finally calling out Cadence
Marketing on its inept, non-existant "support" of Specman "e"!!!!!!
While Aart has had his marketing sharks promoting his System Verilog
everywhere they can creatively think of, those Cadence morons have done
nothing, absolutely NOTHING to promote Specman "e" ANYWHERE. Yoav started
Specman "e" in 1992. Synopsys Superlog became System Verilog in 2002.
That's a 10 year lead "e" has had on System Verilog yet in 2012:
Visibility |
SNPS System Verilog |
CDNS Specman "e" |
Industry Conferences |
SV featured at DAC, DATE, Japan EDS, DVcon, DesignCon |
Nothing. |
Company USER Conferences |
SV featured extensively at SNUG's, CDNlive's, MENT U2U's |
Not one CDNlive paper advocating "e". |
DVcon 2012 |
SV featured throughout. All 4 winning papers were on SV. |
One paper on how to migrate from "e" to SV. |
CDNlive 2012 |
SV featured throughout. Linters. Low power. Testbenches. Coverage. Assertions. Legacy. Formal. M/S. Even a "Meet Cadence R&D for Incisive System Verilog" at Wednesday lunch! |
One Palladium paper cites "e" and SV in passing. No Specman R&D at lunch nor anywhere else. |
Cadence.com Home Page |
SV, UVM, OVM is front and center under Cadence > Products > Functional Verification tab. |
Specman Elite is ONLY found under the Cadence > Products > A-Z tab. No hints of "e" anywhere else. |
Cadence.com Support |
SV is discussed daily in detail by CDNS employees on the Cadence.com blogs and forums. |
The last Team Specman blog post was 9/28/2011. That's 6 months ago. |
Cadence.com Overall |
SV featured in 1,000's of blogs, posts, forums, app notes, white papers, training classes, press releases, release notes, etc. |
Specman "e" mentioned in some 2010 press releases and 2008 release notes. |
Synopsys.com Overall |
SV featured in 1,000's of blogs, app notes, white papers, training classes, press releases, release notes, etc. |
Specman "e" not mentioned. |
Mentor.com Overall |
SV featured in 1,000's of blogs, app notes, white papers, training classes, press releases, release notes, etc. |
Specman "e" not mentioned. |
3rd Party Tool Support |
SV is easily supported in at least 500 revs of EDA tools. Simulation. Linting. Coverage. Formal. Low power. Synthesis. ESL. Acceleration. |
Specman "e" comes from Cadence. Stealth support (sim only) by Synopsys and Mentor. No other 3rd party "e" tool support. |
3rd Party News Coverage |
SV commonly listed in EDA tool announcements on all the major EDA news web sites. |
Specman "e" sometimes mentioned in DeepChip. |
If Cadence honestly believed in Specman "e", they wouldn't be making all
these rookie marketing mistakes with it while simultanously expertly pushing
their System Verilog tools. They're not dumb and smart at the same time.
From their actions and inactions, it's obvious to me that Cadence Marketing
decided some time ago that they see Specman "e" as a dying product to be
milked for as much $$$ for as long as possible while they focus their energy
on the fight with Synopsys and Mentor over System Verilog market share.
As a long time Specman user this has been sad to watch. "E" is a far better
functional verification language than SV can ever hope to be. There's still
a strong base of active "e" users out here. If only Cadence would wake up
and support us.
Please keep me/my company anon and thanks, John, for letting me vent.
