Subject: Cadence responds to the Denali memory modeling End-of-Sale issue

> I'm furious. Cadence has announced "End-of-Sale" for all Denali products
> as of April 5, 2011. As a result, these products will no longer be
> available for sale from Denali and must be purchased from Cadence.
>
> Cadence is also attaching many unilateral terms to these Denali products,
> including expecting that customers trade in their Denali *perpetuals* for
> Cadence *yearly* leases. This is crazy!
>
> We refuse to continue doing business with Cadence under these terms.
>
> Are other former Denali customers hearing the same thing from Cadence?
> If so, what alternatives for Denali memory VIP are they evaluating? How
> well do they compare to the MMAV they're replacing? How are they priced?
> Do they sell perpetuals?
>
> We need to find a credible "Plan B"; that is where the DeepChip community
> may be able to help.

Hi, John,

My name is Susan Peterson. I am director of VIP and memory model product
marketing at Cadence.

Cadence is continuing to support and enhance the memory models acquired
from Denali last year, in the same portfolio business model offered by
Denali.

The Denali products will continue to be supported for at least 4 years,
and current perpetual license customers can continue to purchase annual
maintenance at the same rate they were paying at Denali.

It is true that going forward, we are only offering annual licenses, not
perpetuals, for new sales.

It is also true that we are offering a very generous transition program
that allows (not requires) perpetual customers to transition from annual
maintenance on their previous generation MMAV to annual licenses for the
latest-and-greatest MM Portfolio for about the same annual spend.

Hi, John,

Regarding the Denali memory model issue, I should like to remind you that
the Free Model Foundry is still alive and well after 15 years. All of our
models are still free to engineers and come as Verilog, System Verilog, or
VHDL source code.
