Subject: 7 Users Who Don't Care

> Cadence announced it's buying Verisity for $285 million in cash.

As an EDA user I don't see it as bad or good news. This seems to be
part of Cadence's retooling and building up muscle to compete against
Synopsys and creating a one stop shop.

Let's say I am not surprised. Look at what Cadence acquired for $285 M
in cash in the following lineup:

                    Synopsys Cadence
                    -------- ---------
                      Vera E/Specman
                   CoverMeter SureCov, etc. ($30M in 2000 ?)
                       ??? Axis ($80M in 2003)

None of this helps the real problems engineers face at geometries less
than 90 nm. Unfortunately, I don't think EDA companies can really do
much to help here. That said, Synopsys still has the edge over Cadence
in this area. For me personally, technical advances, announcements,
or M&As in Design for Yield are much more exciting!

I am primarily neutral as I don't see us using this product.

Though I have a slight negative view of the merger as I see Cadence
messing up a lot of the stuff they buy. On the other hand they
seemingly handled FE pretty well, so it might turn out for the better.

I think Cadence need to spend more time on sorting out and cleaning
up their existing digital tool portfolio, and spend less on constantly
    integrating new purchases.

We don't use Verisity. Thus, I am not very anxious or I'm lucky.

When Cadence and Verisity do a good job, things can get better,
especially when looking for a homogeneous design flow. When the job
is done bad, a lot of people will suffer ... also the guys working
    at the Cadence hotline. ;-)

    I don't know and I don't care.

    Not my problem.

As an EDA user, it won't have much impact on me. It's a bit too late.
Might be of interest to folks who are using NC-SIM/Specman flow.
