Subject: An FPGA Designer Asks Has Anyone Solved The Altera Cygwin Problem?

Hello John,

I'm currently working for a small company designing, among other things,
Altera FPGAs. Altera have a nasty habit of sending their own version of
CygWin that overwrites any previous installation.

When googling for this, I found out that this is an old problem. Before
trying to invent my own solution, I'm wondering if any of your readers have
a solution that they are willing to share?

I'm always running CygWin whenever I can't use Linux/BSD/UNIX and have
configured it to my liking, so I very much like to have it around even
when designing Altera FPGAs.
