Subject: Memory Compilers -- Virage, Atmos, Legend, SDS, Nurlogic

HOME GROWN MEMORIES: For those interested COT designers, a few vendors at
this year's DAC offered some very specialized memory compilers to enable
you to make any type of custom memory you could ever think of.

"Virage feels they are unofficially teamed with Nurlogic. They have RAM
generators in development for IBM's 0.18 and 0.13 libraries. You can
buy a single RAM instance (~$50K), a compiler (~$200K) or a set of
    compilers (Lord knows how much).

Silicon Design Solutions competes with Virage but has lots of multi-port
RAM types that Virage doesn't support.

    Atmos sells a DRAM compiler.

Legend Design Automation sells a tool for characterizing generated
memories. They claim that generator vendors give you timing with huge
margins and their tool allows to squeeze the most speed out of your
    memories."
