John,
Synopsys certainly offers other power analysis tools besides PowerMill:
PowerGate: Gate-level power analysis with time-based reports and waveform
display (accurate to a single switching event)
Design Power: power estimation early in the design process, using a
quick-mapped (Verilog or VHDL) RTL gate-level netlist and
RTL simulation activity to enable fast trade-off analysis
& identification of power problems.
PowerArc: a library power characterization tool to make db libs for these
Synopsys power analysis tools. (Although most foundries
simply give customers power characterized Synopsys db libs,
there are some customers who make their own ASIC libs who
would want a tool like PowerArc.)
Simplex's Thunder&Lightning calculates IR drop and does electromigration
analysis -- thus it is more like EPIC's RailMill, not PowerMill. (In
closing, I'd like to proudly wear my Marketting Hat and brag that PowerMill
has extensive power diagnostics -- excessive short-circuit current,
excessive leakage, DC paths, rise/fall time violations, circuit topology
checks, etc. -- Simplex's Thunder&Lightning has none of this.)
