Subject: DC 97.08 QOR Aren't What The Synopsys Marketeers Say They Are

Hi John,

I have discovered that 1997.08-49682 (the latest patch) doesn't live up to
it's claims of improved QOR (Quality Of Results) which is Synopsys speak for
how well the synthesis can meet your timing constraints...

I've been working on a BIST controller for a RAM and with v3.4b the
synthesis meets the timing constraints. With 1997.01 and it's patches the
synthesis crashes. With 1997.08 or 1997.08-49682, it fails to meet the
timing. Guess which version we're sticking with?

I'm beginning to feel that Synopsys needs to upgrade their QA test suite
before doing formal releases...
