To update the fatal error situation with Synopsys 1997.08: Recently I heard
back from the support center.  They've opened a STAR for the problems we're
seeing.  At our site, we'll be sticking with 1997.01 until we get either a
bug-fix release, or until 1998.01 shows up.

For those keeping score, it's STAR 48884.
